Featuring, amongst others, the Australian Premiere of Helvetica, the first feature film made on typography. To be followed by a forum discussion on the future role of film making in and about graphic design and typography. Featuring:
Gary Hustwit (New York, USA) The Director of Helvetica, offering his experience of producing the first feature length film on typography.
Garth Davis (Melbourne, Australia) An award-winning filmmaker from Exit Films, whose work bridges both commercial and independent film.

After the event we're going to have drinks and a BBQ down at Riverland (on the banks of the Yarra under Fed Square). A good opportunity for designers to have a less formal chat with the speakers and other guests.
About Character
Character is a series of public forums discussing the social and cultural aspects of graphic design and typography.
Past forums have included discussions on the ethics of style-guiding cities, political neutrality in graphic design and the creative role of accident. Audience participation, debate and feedback is actively encouraged.
About Helvetica
Helvetica is a feature-length documentary about typography, graphic design and global visual culture directed by Gary Hustwit. Helvetica looks at the proliferation of one typeface (celebrating its 50th birthday this year) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives.
Participants in the film include Massimo Vignelli, Matthew Carter, Erik Spiekermann, Wim Crouwel, Hermann Zapf, Neville Brody, David Carson, Stefan Sagmeister, Norm, Michael Bierut, Paula Scher, Jonathan Hoefler, Tobias Frere-Jones, Experimental Jetset, Bruno Steinert, Rick Poynor, Lars Müller and many more.
