The Other Forty One Minutes – Marcus Piper (NSW)
When: 1st June 2009
Time: 06:00pm
It started with four minutes of inspirational magic at the digital print evening last year. Now here's 'the other forty one minutes' from multi award winning art director Marcus Piper.
Graduating in industrial design, Marcus launched into publication design and became the founding art director of POL Oxygen magazine in 2002, a role he held until the magazine's closure in 2008.
He has a very impressive list of credits to his name, which include winning Australian (Editorial) Graphic Designer of the year (2001), three silver medals from the prestigious Society of Publication Designers in New York and working with Neville Brody's Research Studios in London.
With partner Christey Johansson, Marcus has set up the agency one8one7, where they focus on design and architecture based projects and collaborations. The studio has worked with Swarovski, Jaime Hayon, recently art directed the launch issue of Australian Aboriginal Art Magazine, the relaunch of InDesign Magazine; and they are currently working with the Powerhouse Museum on their Sydney Design 09 festival identity and campaign.
Marcus draws inspiration from the world outside graphic design. His approach is that of a product designer, each project being a user experience with the result inspired by the process of creating, material and interaction.
